A New Sewing Season

Last fall, I began teaching a sewing class at my home.  These two friends so inspired me that I decided it was time to branch out and though the Christmas classes never got off the ground, the opportunities to teach began to explode.  I'm now teaching three classes and am adding another class in May!!!                                The fun thing is that most of my students are between the ages of ten and fourteen.  That is such a great age to learn.  I was twelve when I took my first class at a Singer Sewing store in the Thruway Mall in Buffalo, NY, and I made myself a jumper, complete with a hat.  Oh, how I wish I had that today!  How cool would that be?

My very first sewing class at the boy's co-op turned out spectacular.  I had six extremely excited and talkative girls that learned how to make pajama pants, which, btw, came in handy this past winter...we had several cold days, even this past week!  Hope they wore theirs; I wore my footie jammies a lot!  The boys got tired of seeing them on me.
I felt extremely honored to receive a card from a very sweet girl telling me that she loved me and yet got upset with me sometimes because I made her use her 'best friend', the seam ripper so many times!
I love what I do!
There are so many stories, just like this one that, I think I'll do this for the rest of my life!

Teaching...

Well, it's time to step out of the boat and begin to walk on water...or maybe I'll just sit in the boat and fish!  I think it'll be more exciting to walk on water and then show others how it's done.
Metaphors aside, I've finally decided to take the knowledge I have and offer it to others.
Designs by D.au.n.e. will be offering classes in my home.  I also will be teaching a course through the boys new co-op school in September, as well!  If you've never sewn two pieces of fabric together and created something that you could say, "I made that!", then you should consider writing taking one of my ongoing classes!  You're never too old to learn a new skill...and sewing is fun, relaxing and extremely satisfying!

Summer of dresses...

For the last three weeks, I've been taking care of my newest grandchildren. The youngest one is four and she's so stinkin' cute, I just had to make her a  summer dress, but as soon as she saw this one, she wanted to model it and keep it--so she's gotten two!  I've had that fabric for a long time and never could figure out what to make...turned out great for the hot summer down here in San Antonio!

That inspiration propelled me to make more dresses to sell..no patterns, just from perusing various sewing websites.  In the process, I've learned the 'right' way to make my own bias tape!

Here is the perfect one for the little girl heading to the coast for vacation!
This is a stretchy fabric and has a lot of give. The length is 19".
Size 3/4.

Price: $24 plus s/h.

Summer dress

It's finally finished!  I began this bee-you-tiful little dress before Easter, but got snagged on a couple of things, so I couldn't get back to it until today!

This is a cotton dress, size 5, approximately, depending on the child and it is sleeveless, which helps to keep those hands free to dance and move around!

Five buttons line the back, the first two covered by homemade flowers!

Two matching pockets, detailed with lime green thick rick rack, and two buttons.

The neckline of the dress falls down to a large flower with a button in the middle!

This dress is a one-of-a-kind!
Email me or comment if you have any questions or want to secure your order.
There won't be another dress like it!

Well, I thought I'd repost the chair I recovered and painted...
I love this chair and part of me hopes it doesn't sell, but I need to sell it for my trip to Haiti!
So, if you feel so inclined to bless the socks off some little child, particularly a girl, drop me a note @ designsbydaune at yahoo dot com!

The price tag on this darling chair is: $150, plus shipping.

I have made a few more bags, but only one is finished.  It's a smaller one:
